Simulated Chaos

The video game industry has been in advancement and thriving amongst a vast array of avid players for over three decades. Ever since the early 1980’s, the greatest concern for most children growing up was which video game they where going to acquire and master next. Once introduced to this alternate form of entertainment, many people find themselves completely enthralled and even coaxed to the point of obsession. With the gaming industry now revolutionizing entertainment with the production of vast amounts of titles and realistic graphical rendering, can genres such as today’s First Person Shooter(FPS) actually have detrimental effects on the participants?

Are these games meant to provide more than just wholesome, quality entertainment? If you were to observe a person playing games like ’Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare’, it appears to be nothing short of a virtual simulation? It seems the general purpose of these games is to integrate ones awareness into a fixed, holographic environment which relies solely on their ability to form cognitive discretion. Its obvious the level of involvement when the player exhibits a trance like state. At that point, who knows what demented concepts could be bypassing all reason and judgement to be absorbed straight into their subconscious.

When the game itself deals with consistent mass murder and utter destruction, one might find cause for concern. Granted, it isn’t likely that the average player would in a situation where these actions can be replicated, but they may show signs passive aggravation in other trivial acts as an effect of trauma during these “simulations”. Situations which involve the killing and terrorizing of life-like, human targets in the name of sport. First Person Shooters are most effective because its easier for the player to adapt to a situation where they feel most in control. Its important to remember that these games are designed to produce realistic environments; and had the player actually been physically in the situation of war, they may not be as accepting.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of other titles available where players can have just as much fun, if not more. Of course, its up to the 'adult' player if they want to engage in more creative games, or not. As for children, many parents aren’t even aware of the ESRB rating system made specifically for video games.

They purchase for their child games designed for mature audiences only to fulfill desperate request made from the child. The cover itself sometimes gives away the nature of the game, but its just a harmless video game, right? This often leads to misunderstandings, then before you know it, the parents are left wondering why their child has shown an increase in aggression and lack of focus in school(ADHD). All in all, use discernment and think before you choose to get involved with these types of games.

Super-Human Potential

Since forever, humans have been attracted to the idea of the existance of latent power beneath the exterior body being capable of tremendous feats. The story of the heroic figure swooping in to save the day is what is most memorable amongst admirers. There are even average people from all around the globe that demonstrate sudden acts of super-human like abilities. A man surviving a severe car wreck with only minor scratches; A woman who lifts a vehical of over 10 times her own weight to save a child; Just but a few examples of how these abilities can be used.

Although commonly used in an erratic manner, could abilities like telekinesis and enchahanced strength, be just another natural state that most humans are capable of controlling and mastering? If so, could they also be applied in practical ways that are relevent to a societies needs? In todays modern world, it seems there would be very little need of having every citizen practice such abilities with so much aready being out of control. The average civilian might not have the disipline required to harness the power of a particular skill; that could prove vital to a society that wishes to uphold harmony amongst its people.

Its apparent that the potential for this type of advancement exsists.  So whether this idea becomes a reality or not, depends more so on collective agreement rather than individual concent. The individual having the ability would probably have to compensate for those who choose to continue with a mundane lifestyle, as depicted in many Hero tales. That might even become a type of trading service among citizens. A future where super-human abilities are commonplace might actually prove more efficient given that they are used responsibly.

Dream Benefits: Alternate Location

The nature of reality has been widely explored since the beginning of humanitys evolution. A bit of data here and there that will, in time, reveal more and more of the ever expanding picture. There are literally countless forms of reality that can be used in the aquisition of knowledge on certain truths. So when we look at how dreams behave, many of them could actually be the result of alternate localization.

Whether intentional or not, dreams exibit a state that only seems involuntary when the conscious mind is made aware. Other than that, you could be totally immersed in an enviornment as if you somehow expected it to happen. Lucid Dreams are said to be consciously manipulated by the observer. So what are dreams that are manipulated, or even orgestrated, by the subconscious?

It would seem impractical that the physical body itself, would spontaneously transport to an alternate form of reality, or even transform into an entirely different form to adapt to surroundings. The body might not be what transports, but the mind. Like a virtual simulation or continuation of experience for the mind while the body recharges and heals, like a ships captain dismounting after docking. A person spends nearly half of their life asleep. All that extra time could be used to implement certain beneficial teachings into subconscious memory to later be used during crucial periods in life.

Dream Benefits: Open Communication

Usually when people think of dreams, they figure them just to be erratic scenes of little importance in which they have no control. Some may find they prove useful given that they remember its scenario. Some dream content can be so exotic in nature that the person ends up confused and wouldn't even begin to know how or where to decipher it. Some may be so frightening that the person will choose to place a mental block in order to keep its contents from interfering with their life in general.

But it isn't like there is an 'off' switch for dreams, so wouldn't it be beneficial to learn key details which would aid in the understanding of how dreams function?  Could there actually be somewhat of an exclusive form of communication happening which most aren't even aware of?

When examined, most dreams seem to act as a personal GPS for life's unexpected detours ; and if you fail to listen to directions, you could end up lost. Since the conscious mind likes to take charge of every waking moment, the only setting in which another form of guidance could take place is during sleep when the conscious mind has less chance of interfering.

Even though dreams tend to be cryptic and unrelated to they way we are used to communicating, suppose in time there will be a separate language developed to support its symbolic format. There might actually be way for someone to explain how they suddenly end up in free fall down the side of a cliff or soaring though the air with a celebrity. Maybe that knowing awaits in the next stage of our social evolution.

Dream Benefits: Routine Healing

Everyone dreams. Dreams play a predominate role in our day to day(or night to night) lives and are much needed to maintain psychological and physiological stability. With sleep itself being absolutely vital to maintain physical health as well as mental heath, can dreaming be a sort of biological fail-safe mechanism to aid in the body's regular rejuvenatory process?

When the conscious mind is up and running, so to speak, and is dictating and filtering your every wakeful step, its easy to accumulate stress which can lead to many forms of physical illness. If the conscious mind is unable to modulate the stress, it jeopardizes the overall physical survival rate. If that were to happen, its possible that it would greatly effect the quality of human population, production, integrity and humanity would totally fail to thrive.

It seems likely that there would be an automated recovery process that happens during certain stages of sleep to save us from ourselves. Sure, there are those who engage in substance abuse in order to find relief from stress which often it ends up being counterproductive. Then there are those who use more proactive methods such as Yoga, meditation, music and so forth.

Even when a person spends many hours awake without any type of rest, the body will begin to wain and it becomes less and less capable of supporting itself. The body will eventually force itself to sleep in order to restore its vitality. It said that dreams happen during the REM stage of sleep. REM standing for Rapid Eye Movement. Maybe the rapid movements are associated with the brains attempt to synchronize with the constant imagery that happens during dreams.

Out of all the physical senses, the eyes are the highest receivers of sensory input. Could REM be a physical interpretation of the data being sent from within a dream as its applied to various areas of the body with a healing effect? Maybe this process can be tuned and applied in ways that would afford a person longer periods of wakefulness; Even direct those healing energies to a specific area altogether.
